Proud of its history, SAINT-GENIS DES FONTAINES resolutely joins in the 21st century thanks to an environment privileging the quality of life, the dynamism of its associative life and its animations, while keeping anchored in its ground, the many traces of his past. The Cloister of St Genis des Fontaines was built in the 13th century. Its specificity is characterized by the polychromy of its marbles, the white of Céret, the pink of Villefranche of Conflent and the black of the Corbières Roussillonnaises. The motifs of the sculptures are varied: local flora and fauna, allegorical subjects and liturgical scenes. The thousand-year-old Lintel, in white Ceret marble, is the first Romanesque sculpture dated in stone (1019-1020). It sits above the front door of the Church. It is a monumental work and known worldwide. An art gallery is open in the upper ambulatory of the Cloitre, it hosts many varied and quality exhibitions.
