The Alt Ter Environmental Education Center Association is an entity from Ripollès that was created 20 years ago (April 14, 2000), with the aim of encouraging attitudes of respect and protection of heritage. natural and cultural area of the eastern Pyrenees, through the dissemination and discovery of its values. From the point of view of tourism, it manages facilities and carries out guided tours of the cultural and natural heritage of the region. In addition to environmental education activities in schools and local awareness campaigns and projects for the dissemination and conservation of cultural heritage and improvement of the natural environment.
Old flour mill of the monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses restored and converted into a center for the interpretation of hydraulic mills and activities to discover the natural environment of the Arçamala stream. There are several possibilities to visit the ecomuseum throughout the year, either through scheduled or arranged visits for closed groups. There is no visiting schedule but it depends on when the activity is offered. The activities offered are: * Guided tour with a sample of the operation of the mechanism of the mill * Bread making workshop with a visit to the mill * Ornithology activity * Activities of discovery of the riverside environment, depending on the interests of the group or scheduled activity.
Since 2000 we have been carrying out guided cultural tours of different towns, monasteries, monuments and cultural facilities in Ripollès and neighboring counties. The CEA Alt Ter has official guides, accredited by the Generalitat de Catalunya, with extensive experience in cultural guidance. The visits that are offered regularly and in a scheduled way are the monasteries of Santa Maria de Ripoll and Sant Joan de les Abadesses and visits to the different towns and villages of the region (Ripoll, Sant Joan de les Abadesses, Camprodon, Setcases … ) and Romanesque churches (Molló, Llanars, Queralbs …) and castles (Mataplana, Rocabruna) … as well as arranged visits that can be requested by closed groups, both in Ripollès and neighboring counties. Visits can be short (1 hour and a half) or even walks for a whole day (6 hours), such as the Camí de la Retirada de Molló in Prats de Molló.
Through a visit to the museum of Count Arnau de Gombrèn and what was his home, the castle of Mataplana, we delve into the history of one of the most influential and enigmatic families in medieval Catalonia, the Mataplana. During the visit, places related to the legend of Count Arnau are discovered, such as the Gorg els Banyuts or the Castell de les Dames, and it is revealed that there is a myth and that there is reality in this legendary character. There are several possibilities to visit the ecomuseum throughout the year, either through visits scheduled every last Sunday of the month and every Sunday in August or arranged for closed groups.
Nature outings that take place throughout the year to get to know the different places in the Capçaleres del Ter and Freser Natural Park. These are naturalistic outings accompanied by an interpretive guide who deals with different topics depending on the itinerary or place where it takes place: ornithology, botany, geology, fauna, habitats … The scheduled outings are organized in conjunction with the Natural Park and if a group is interested an outing can be arranged according to theme or place of interest to the group.
