This circuit goes around Albera Massif under the gaze of Mount Canigou and to the whispers of the Tramontana winds. It takes you to the information and interpretation centres of La Jonquera and Espolla and emblematic heritage sites such as the legendary Requesens Castle and the Benedictine Monastery of Sant Quirze de Colera, a jewel of Roman Catalonia.
Albera Massif, located between the Empordà plains and Roselló, is the most prominent eastern flank of the Pyrenees. It extends from Col du Perthus to the Mediterranean Sea, forming a landscape full of dense and colourful vegetation and ancient manmade structures and ruins. With its numerous dolmens and menhirs, this region has the most megalithic monuments in Catalonia.
The circuit around Albera Massif will take you on a trip through history, from the Neolithic and the Roman Empire to the Medieval period and present day. All of this is combined with a rich natural diversity that is home to endangered species such as the Mediterranean turtle and the beech woods whose origins date back to the Ice Age.
