Know the whole Epiremed territory
Climb the five most emblematic peaks in the Epiremed region, unique and quintessential massifs such as Pica d’Estats, Pedraforca, Carlit, Puigmal and Canigou. Which one are you going to start with?
Pica d’Estats is the highest peak in Catalonia and quite possibly the most challenging. If you’re in shape, go for it! As for Pedraforca, with its unique twin peaks and stone slopes, it is one of the most quintessential summits of the region: the climbs up and down are a real adventure.
Carlit is the highest peak in Alta Cerdanya and offers views of the lakes of Bouillouses, a series of glacial lakes. If you climb to the top, don’t forget your binoculars. Puigmal is the peak par excellence of the Olla de Nuria trail. Its wide, curvy formations make for an easy climb up. Are you in?
Lastly, Canigou has a symbolic value for the Catalan people, so much so that it was rendered homage in a poem by Jacint Verdaguer. At its base stand the Benedictine abbeys of Saint-Martin-du-Canigou and Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa. Thanks to all of this, climbing it is quite the adventure.
